Press Release

Schaffner Group the world leader in EMI issue since nearly 60 years, developed a new innovative filter solution for the growing E-Mobility market.

In order to be competitive against traditional combustion engines, three main aspects must be addressed by the industry:

  • Size reduction
  • Cost reduction
  • Performance improvemen

Up to now passive filter solutions with magnetic components have been employed to suppress EMI generated by inverters. While compact passive filter solutions show good performance at high frequencies (HF), they provide reduced attenuation below 10 MHz. Schaffner took a step forward in the technology: less copper, smaller volume and outstanding performance are the results obtained by our new Active Filtering Technology.

In Automotive Systems, the typical current span reaches from tens to hundreds of Ampere, while limited space available in a vehicle and cost pressure pose a severe challenge to potential design solutions. In Schaffner we believe that such a big challenge could best be addressed with a step forward in the technology: less copper, smaller volume and outstanding performance are the results obtained by our new Active Filtering Technology.

The traditional passive components have must withstand the high functional currents while filtering the HF noise, our new solution smartly decouples the two systems. Low magnitude HF currents are suppressed by creating a negative copy of the noise that destructively superimposes with the original interference. Excellent attenuation at lower frequencies starting from 100 kHz up to 30 MHz can be now achieved with dramatic size and cost reductions. Schaffner will introduce filters based upon active technology early in 2018.
