Leading music festivals, Tête à Tête and sound, stage performance on board

Guests travelling on board last night's Caledonian Sleeper service were in for a musical treat as they journeyed overnight between Aberdeen and London.

A miniature musical theatre piece entitled 'Belongings', co-commissioned by Scotland's soundfestival and operatic company Tête à Tête, was performed in the rail service's Lounge Car. The piece, inspired by items of luggage carried by railway passengers, held its world premiere on Monday night exclusively for Caledonian Sleeper guests.

As well as a chance to sample one of Tête à Tête and soundfestival's forthcoming performances, guests received complimentary tickets to soundfestival for use this autumn.

Bill Bankes-Jones of London-based Tête à Tête commented: 'Travelling with Caledonian Sleeper is a fantastic way to explore the UK and our performance on board was designed to welcome audiences from two of the country's most creative cities and to sample new music and works.

'For those looking for be inspired by fresh music and performances, soundfestival this autumn in Scotland helps make new music accessible. Alternatively, those currently in or planning to visit London this summer should make sure to sample some very special performances at Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival 2017 as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations before it closes on the 13 August.'

Fiona Robertson, festival director at sound added: 'As part of a range of projects to help increase access to new music, soundfestival has staged a series of operas in unusual places including a lighthouse and a stable, and on a bus.

'We are delighted to be able to take this initiative forward with these special performances on the Caledonian Sleeper. We hope hearing this opera will encourage people to enjoy more performances both at Tête à Tête and soundfestival.'

Ryan Flaherty, Serco's guest experience director at Caledonian Sleeper added: 'What better way to travel than to a performance that brings alive the experience of travelling by some of the country's most talented stars?

'As well as a performance of a night time, our guests also received complimentary tickets to Scotland's acclaimed soundfestival and I hope they will enjoy the autumn festival's delights if they are planning to attend later this year.'

Additional pop up performances around London King's Cross will take place until 13 August for Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival 2017.

'Belongings' will be re-staged on the Caledonian Sleeper on the evening of 9 November followed by pop up performances in Deeside to coincide soundfestival.

Soundfestival takes place between 26 and 11 November in Aberdeen and across Aberdeenshire.
