SGS is now an accredited Certification Body for the FSSC 22000 Standard version 4.1 with trained auditors in all regions of the world.

Published in 2016, the FSSC 22000 Standard version 4.1 is the first standard that has been developed specifically with the requirements of the GFSI version 7.1 benchmark document requirements at its core.

By considering the requirements in the GFSI benchmarking document the FSSC standard is one of the most comprehensive standards for food safety management systems. Using the globally recognized ISO 22000 as its foundation, it provides a firm base from which the management system can be constructed. Complementing this with the requirements of the individual industry pre-requisite programs as well as the additional FSSC prescribed requirements, makes the standard comprehensive but still flexible and straightforward to implement.

By including more detailed requirements related to food fraud and food defense, the standard addresses the influence of these topics on the food industry. Additionally, the introduction of a mandatory unannounced audit will significantly change the culture around food safety, moving it from a planned annual event into something that has to be truly embedded within the organization.

Version 4.1 also offers a wider food industry scope now including catering, retail, transport and storage, complementing the existing food manufacturing, food packaging materials and animal feed.

To support and facilitate a smooth FSSC transition journey for our clients SGS has also launched a suite of FSSC-approved training options including face to face and state of the art eLearning, FSSC 22000 Version 4.1 Food Safety Systems Certification - Introduction Course. This was designed to ensure staff in facilities across the world can be trained in a consistent, high quality and engaging manner.
