SGS's hi-tech testing facility in Suwanee, Georgia, USA, has received recognition by the IEC System for Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components (IECEE), certifying its capability to perform safety, essential performance testing and provide certification for electroencephalographs (EEG) through 60601-2-26 and electromyographs and evoked response equipment through 60601-2-40.

Each of these standards mandate that a product must have additional marking and manual requirements. The new IEC 60601-2-26 dictates that essential performance requirements, such as accuracy, DC voltage offsets and frequency response must be covered. The new IEC 60601-2-40 includes testing for accuracy of pulse duration, diagnostic and therapeutic pressure, and visual stimulator outputs. Both standard additions also include EMC requirements in addition to those in IEC 60601-1-2.

Robert Burek, Global Electro-Medical Technical Director, stated: 'Adding IEC 60601-2-26 & 60601-2-40 to our electro-medical service offerings adds significant benefit to our Suwanee Laboratory. This addition allows for SGS to offer an even more complete CB service to our customers.'

The CB Scheme is an international system for mutual acceptance of test reports and certificates regarding the safety of electrical and electronic components, equipment and products. This ensures that only safe, consistent and well-made products enter the market.

SGS offers a comprehensive testing, product inspection, process assessment and technical services covering the entire supply chain - from product development to retail. SGS are experts in working with electro-medical manufacturers and suppliers, helping reduce risk, improve efficiency and product quality, and ensure compliance against both national and international standards.
