SGS-TÜV will partner with US based technical and management consulting group, kVA, to offer functional safety training for electrical systems in the automotive and automation industry.

Working together, kVA will bring SGS-TÜV's 'Automotive Functional Safety Professional' (AFSP) and 'Industrial Functional Safety Professional' (IFSP) programs to the North American market.

SGS-TÜV is globally-recognized for its expertise in providing services connected to the ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 standards - two standards relating to functional safety in the automotive and automation industry:

  • ISO 26262 - Road vehicles - Functional safety
  • IEC 61508 - Functional Safety of Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic Safety-related Systems (E/E/PE, or E/E/PES)

'This cooperation will enhance SGS's competitiveness by adding our expertise in training, testing, inspection, certification and consulting for Functional Safety and Cyber Security to the portfolio of services available in the North American hemisphere,' says Martin Schmidt, Global Manager Functional Safety SGS Group.

According to Bill Taylor, managing partner of kVA, the partnership will allow kVA to strengthen its training programs in functional safety, ISO 26262 and IEC 61508. Working with SGS-TÜV will also allow kVA to 'address relevant topics for our global clients, including functional safety assessment, audit, and consulting activities.'

kVA has scheduled its first AFSP training event for May 1-4, 2017 in Troy, Michigan. Each training course will take three-and-a-half-days and will conclude with an optional certification exam. In addition to training at their facilities, kVA also offer on-site training.
