June 22, 2016

The recent ISO/PC283, Project Committee meeting, June 6-10, in Toronto, Canada agreed to move forward with the publication of a second Draft International Standard (DIS) for the highly anticipated ISO 45001 standard.

The first DIS of ISO 45001 failed to gain approval by the committee following a round of balloting, from February 12 to May 12, that closed with a result of 71% in favor to 29% against. The DIS also raised over 3,000 comments during the ballot period that were further discussed at the recent meeting. The development of ISO 45001 will now progress to a second DIS, with final publication anticipated to be 2017.

The next Project Committee meeting, scheduled for October 2016, will review the remaining comments submitted during the first DIS ballot and also finalize the content for the second DIS. As a result, publication of the final standard is now expected in the second half of 2017.

Future Updates

SGS continues to have ongoing involvement in the development of the new standard. Further information and updates on the development of ISO 45001 and its publication schedule will be issued by SGS as they become available.
