Each year in November the entire global medical devices industry showcases its latest trends and innovations at MEDICA, in Dusseldorf, Germany. At this event, SGS presented, as always, a service portfolio that matched the industry's need for innovative third party solutions.

MEDICA 2014 exceeded the organizers' expectations with regards to attendance, technological innovations on display, and the wealth of content and information presented in the conferences and forums that accompanied the event.

The 4,800 medical devices exhibitors attracted over 130,000 visitors from 120 countries to the Dusseldorf Exhibition Halls, between November 12 and 15, 20141. Over 70% of visitors were decision-makers in their companies and organizations, which highlights the importance the industry gives to this trade-fair. As exports are the main driving force behind the growth in the medical devices sector, the MEDICA trade-fair and conferences have become the premier events to catch up on the latest in the industry.

The conferences and forums programme covered a wide range of current topics that are relevant in the industry. The main highlights included the MEDICA Education Conference, DiMiMed - the International Conference on Disaster and Military Medicine, and the Medicine + Sports Conference.

At this year's MEDICA the industry's main focus points continued to revolve around health IT solutions and connected healthcare technologies. The efficiency and ease of operation of electro-medical devices have become the most important purchase criteria for the medical industry.

SGS's exhibition stand at MEDICA and its team of international experts have successfully presented innovative solutions to the most pressing industry needs - market access and product qualification. The service offering was accompanied by a significant discount on EMC testing for medical and in-vitro devices, which is still available for a limited time period. A further discount was offered to visitors for participation in a competence-building seminar, which will be held at the SGS medical devices lab in Munich. Additionally, the SGS experts at MEDICA offered a constant stream of information on the current regulatory landscape, including updates on the 3rd edition family of IEC 60601 standards. Also the regulations governing personalized health apps were discussed, and the situations in which such apps and their mobile devices become actual medical devices. As in previous years, the wealth of services and information on offer at the SGS stand made it a "must visit" spot on the exhibition floor.
