On 20 April 2015, SGS Netherlands was appointed a Notified Inspection Institution by the country's Minister of Social Affairs and Employment, qualifying it to conduct final inspections for lifts, and issue, withdraw or suspend certification.

With immediate effect, SGS in the Netherlands can:

  • Perform final inspections of lift installations
  • Issue, refuse, suspend or withdraw declarations arising from inspection activities

In the Netherlands, lifts require a valid inspection sticker and certificate of approval issued by an accredited Notified Inspection Institution. These are a legal requirement, without them your lift may not be used. As a government-approved inspection body, SGS works with clients to ensure that lift inspections are completed by a qualified expert, in a timely and effective manner.

SGS lift inspection services, for both passenger lifts and goods-passenger lifts, include:

  • Periodic (in-use) inspections of existing lifts
  • Modification inspections of existing lifts
  • Final inspection of new lifts
  • Unit verification of new lifts
  • Pre-commissioning and periodical inspections of lifts that will be used in the construction phase

In addition, SGS also provides periodic safety inspections for the following installations:

  • Escalators and moving walkways
  • Building maintenance units
  • Goods only lifts
  • Lifting platforms
  • Small goods lifts
  • House lifts
  • Stairlifts

"This accreditation is the culmination of eight months work," said Pieter van Moerkerk, Business Unit Manager NDT & Statutory Services, SGS Netherlands. "This accreditation, together with its Belgian equivalent, means we can support clients who want a Benelux, or even a Europe-wide contract."
