Watch our video to learn about the benefits of working with SGS when implementing national forest information systems to promote legal timber trade worldwide.

Part of our suite of forestry monitoring services, SGS LegalTrace helps governments and institutions to monitor and control forestry activities throughout the supply chain.

SGS LegalTrace® is our timber traceability and legality verification system solution. It is a web based and embedded application developed by SGS in compliance with the requirements of the FLEGT Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs) signed between timber producing countries and the European Union. It can also be adapted to comply with regulations such as the Amendment to the Lacey Act and the Australian Illegal Logging Prohibition Act.

SGS LegalTrace allows forest sector operators to report data linked to their activities in an application to the forestry authority, which must then review and approve the data before issuing legality certificates, certificates of origin, export permits or FLEGT licenses. SGS LegalTrace is a key decision making tool for governments operating living timber legality assurance systems.

SGS forestry monitoring services support countries that produce and trade timber in tropical and temperate regions all over the world by providing:

  • Timber traceability and legality systems
  • Capacity building services
  • Field inspection of timber products
