SGS's Centre for Vitamin and Pesticide Analysis, in Berlin, Germany, is moving to new premises and expanding its capacity to analyze more samples, faster, for clients in the food sector.

SGS's vitamin analysis services have already moved to this new location, with 650m of laboratory space, and pesticide analysis services will follow soon. This investment continues the company's expansion of the SGS Institute Fresenius' food laboratory.

'Thanks to this expanded capacity we can immediately begin analyzing considerably more samples in a shorter processing time,' says Dr. Anja Hartl, who leads the customer advisory service for the food sector at SGS. The Berlin facility analyses more than 50,000 samples of food and animal fodder annually. Demand is growing and this number is rising.

Analysis of Secondary Plant Constituents

Along with the move, SGS has invested in the recruitment of additional employees and the provision of technical equipment. This new laboratory meets the most up-to-date requirements for microbiological and chemical analysis of fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins. Additionally, new services have been introduced for the determination of secondary plant constituents - both for value-determining substances like isoflavones and catechins.

The SGS Institut Fresenius Berlin laboratory has long experience of the analysis and identification of vitamins, working with recognized, accredited methods. For producers and retailers of dietary supplements or dietetic food like infant formula, these facilities are the first choice for laboratory analysis, food legislation expertise or content declaration checks.

Health Food Symposium and Laboratory Tour

SGS Institut Fresenius's new premises in Berlin can be seen during this year's Health Food Symposium. As part of the event on April 19 and 20, 2016, there will be a laboratory tour, alongside lectures on botanicals, consumer preferences and permissible advertising claims for food supplements. Contact us to register to attend the symposium and join the tour these new facilities.
