The latest in a string of major permits has been issued to allow for construction of the four-floor retail and food services component of Fifth + Broadway.

The permit is valued at about $6.15 million, with Skanska handling the construction. (The retail component is pictured.)

The issuing of the permit follows a recent permit issued to allow for construction of the 34-story apartment tower to rise at the Fifth + Broadway site fully underway within the central business district.

That permit was valued at $36.6 million, with Skanska also handling the job.

The apartment tower will rise on the southwest quadrant of the site's footprint, across Broadway from Sixth Avenue South and Bridgestone Arena.

To span 6.2 acres, Fifth + Broadway is replacing the long-since-demolished Nashville Convention Center building. It will offer 235,000 square feet of retail and entertainment (including the National Museum for African-American Music), 385,000 square feet of Class A office space (at 501 Commerce), approximately 380 residential units and more than 2,000 parking spaces.

The developers are San Diego-based OliverMcMillan and Spectrum | Emery (co-based in Raleigh and Cool Springs). The latter is no longer operational except for its work on Fifth + Broadway.

Luxury tour bus leasing company to add facility

Work is slated to begin on a storage and maintenance building for locally based luxury tour bus leasing company Nitetrain Coach and to be located in the Whites Creek area.

A permit, valued at about $1.5 million, will allow for construction of the building, which will also include office space.

Gallatin-based CDS Construction Inc. is handling the job.

The company operates a large multi-building campus at 7452 Old Hickory Blvd.

BOA Plaza offices to be renovated

Renovations are set to begin on the seventh-floor offices of Bank of America Plaza for locally headquartered orthodontic company Smile Direct Club.

A permit valued at roughly $1.3 million has been issued to allow for the renovations.

Nashville-based Flow Construction Co. will handle the job.

The Bank of America Plaza has an address of 414 Union St.

Rooftop patio addition slated for Tin Roof Broadway

Work is set to begin on a rooftop patio addition to the Broadway location of local pub and venue Tin Roof.

A $600,000 permit has been issued for the addition.

Brentwood-based Shaub Construction Co. will undertake the project.

The pub is located at 316 Broadway.
