Sky won a Highly Commended in the 'Sustainable Products and Services' category at the annual Business in the Community Responsible Business Gala Dinner, held in London on 7th July.

These Awards celebrate sustainability best practice and innovation, and recognise businesses that are making a positive impact on society. Judges were impressed with how Sky has reduced the environmental impact of our products from the energy efficiency of the boxes to the re-use and recycling of products when returned to us. The panel also noted the breadth and depth of Sky's work in this area from tackling climate change through Sky Rainforest Rescue to the sustainable design of our set-top boxes

This is recognition for the work we have done at Sky using a life cycle analysis approach to ensure we concentrate on the areas which make the biggest impact. Innovative sustainable design has reduced the size and weight of our products and packaging, and auto-standby functions have helped reduce set-top box energy consumption by 20%, helping our customers to save money and lower emissions.

On hearing about the win, Roger Lambert, Director of Customer Technology, said, "We're delighted to receive this commendation from Business in the Community - it is a brilliant achievement for all those involved. It recognises our efforts to continuously improve our products and services. At Sky, minimising our environmental impact, whilst also achieving efficiency savings for the firm and our customers, is central to how we operate.
