Smurfit Kappa is continuing its annual tradition of holding a week-long series of events to highlight the importance of health and safety both inside and outside the workplace.

The theme for this year's health and safety week is 'Speak Up and Be Safe'. Employees are being encouraged to speak up and take the necessary actions if they notice anything unsafe in the workplace.

Employees from across all 34 countries will participate in the health and safety events which coincide with the International Labour Organisation's World Health & Safety Day.

Group CEO Tony Smurfit recorded a video message urging all employees to play their part in working safely and speaking up to avoid any incidents. The video also emphasises how working safely in the workplace is a collective responsibility.

Some of the events planned for this year's health and safety week in Smurfit Kappa include:

  • Staff health checks

  • First-aid training

  • Health and safety talks

  • Fire safety
