Standard Chartered PLC - statement on finalisation of Basel III reforms

Standard Chartered PLC (the Group) welcomes the announcement today by the Group of Central Bank Governors and Heads of Supervision (the GHOS) of its endorsement of the outstanding Basel III regulatory reforms (the Basel III reforms).

The Group will provide a preliminary assessment of the implications of the Basel III reforms in due course once it has had time to analyse the elements that have been announced today.

The Group is well-capitalised with a strong and liquid balance sheet that demonstrated its resilience in the recent Bank of England stress test. The Group had a Common Equity Tier 1 ratio of 13.6 per cent as at the end of the third quarter of 2017.

The statement on the Basel III reforms is available to view on the website of the Bank for International Settlements at:https://www.bis.org/.

The GHOS is the oversight body of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS). The BCBS is the primary global standard setter for the prudential regulation of banks and provides a forum for cooperation on banking supervisory matters. Its mandate is to strengthen the regulation, supervision and practices of banks worldwide with the purpose of enhancing financial stability.
