Appointment of Doug McAlpine as CFO

Stanmore Coal (ASX:SMR, “Stanmore Coal”) is pleased to announce that Mr Doug McAlpine has joined the Company as Chief Financial Officer commencing on 19 September 2011. Mr McAlpine has over 15 years of accounting and finance experience, including significant roles as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Mr McAlpine joins Stanmore Coal from the ASX listed company, Watpac Limited, a major construction and contract services business, where he was CFO and Company Secretary. Prior to that Mr McAlpine was CFO and Company Secretary of Ariadne Limited. Mr McAlpine’s also has extensive prior experience in providing external audit and consulting services with Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young.

Mr McAlpine will have responsibility for directing, controlling and administering the financial activities (both operational and strategic) of the organisation and working in conjunction with the Managing Director and Company Secretary to ensure the Company satisfies its compliance and other regulatory obligations.

Mr McAlpine has had significant exposure to the coal industry in Queensland having previously provided external audit and consulting services to BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto during his time in the professional services sector. In his previous role as Chief Financial Officer of Watpac Limited, Mr McAlpine played a key role in the establishment and growth of the company’s contract mining services business.

As Stanmore Coal continues to expand its development activities and subsequently moves to the production phase, Mr McAlpine’s extensive financial management and strategic skills will be essential.

Stanmore Coal’s current Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary Mr Duncan Cornish will progressively transfer CFO responsibilities over the coming months. Stanmore Coal takes this opportunity to acknowledge Mr Cornish’s contribution to the Company and thank him for the exceptional level of service and strategic financial support during the Company’s initial listing and first two years of operation.
