Starz Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey Hirsch announced today the hire of Joe Glennon as Executive Vice President, Affiliate Sales. Based in New York, Glennon will oversee all of the network sales activities for the core Starz premium pay TV businesses with multichannel video and digital distributors in the United States.

“Joe brings a wealth of pay TV sales experience and an understanding for the power of strong content and how it translates to solid distributor relationships, and ultimately an increasingly valuable STARZ brand,” said Hirsch. “With unprecedented demand for our groundbreaking originals - including ‘Power,’ ‘Outlander,’ and coming next year ‘American Gods’ - in addition to our quality movie lineup, Joe’s leadership will be invaluable as we look to secure future opportunities for growing our core business in partnership with MVPDs and new, emerging digital platforms.”

Glennon said, “I am excited to help accelerate the growth of STARZ, which has been on an incredible trajectory over the past several years. With critically-acclaimed original programing and new technologies, Starz is one of the best premium products for distributors to offer their consumers. There is a tremendous runway for exponential growth of the brand and services.”

Starz offers 17 linear channels and associated on-demand and online services, including the recently launched STARZ App, featuring STARZ Original series, premium movies and TV content for TV Everywhere and OTT customers. The flagship STARZ service is the second-most widely subscribed flagship premium pay TV service in the United States with 24 million subscribers.*

Glennon assumes these responsibilities from Michael Thornton, who left the company in June 2016.

Glennon most recently served as Executive Vice President, Distribution at AMC Networks, where he oversaw distribution activities for AMC, WEtv, IFC, Sundance Channel, Fuse and IFC Films. Prior to that, he served as Senior Vice President, Distribution at Fuse. Glennon began his career in the cable business at Discovery Communications.

Glennon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Maryland, College Park.
