Shanghai IAPM mall wins 2013 MIPIM Asia's Best Retail & Leisure Development Gold Award

Sun Hung Kai Properties' (SHKP) Shanghai IAPM mall won 2013 MIPIM Asia's Best Retail & Leisure Development Gold Award.  The mall has won industry praise as a stand-out project in Asia and is desired location for many international retailers.

The MIPIM Asia Awards recognize outstanding office, shopping centre, hotel and resort developments, innovative green buildings and projects in China.  The Best Retail & Leisure Development Award is given to projects with outstanding architecture, technical specifications, market positioning, environmental features and top quality.  Winning an award means the project appeals to shoppers by integrating retail, leisure and entertainment concepts in one development.

There were about 100 projects from 13 countries, including China, Japan, Singapore and South Korea, under consideration in this year's awards.  IAPM mall is on Huai Hai Zhong Road, Puxi.  It follows the successful late-night shopping concept of APM in Hong Kong.  Other attributes include a unique design and international flavour that brings a new facet to Shanghai retailing, according to the judges.

Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency General Manager (Leasing) Maureen Fung was pleased with the award, saying: "SHKP believes in 'building homes with heart' and it continues developing quality projects in Hong Kong and on the mainland.  Shanghai IAPM mall is a major step in the company's retail progress on the mainland with its up-market trendy positioning, wide spectrum of shops, inventive marketing, retail style and inspiring concept."

The mall is in a prime commercial area in Puxi and covers 1.3 million square feet filled with 238 premium international retailers and the world's finest restaurants, of which about 10% are new to China.  The mall has a collection of top names in fashion including flagship Prada and Gucci stores, in the row of duplex units making up the 220-metre facade facing Huai Hai Zhong Road.

IAPM mall was designed by the well-known British firm Benoy Architects.  It has a contemporary architectural style and reflects urban vitality in a new landmark.  The mall takes advantage of natural light with its large windows, in keeping with modern green building concepts.  The interior follows natural concepts such as a wavelike ceiling and lights that resemble trees to create a starry environment for shoppers at night.  All these elements contribute to the day / night IAPM concept.
