Refinery Status: Sunoco To Restart Philadelphia Crude Unit Thursday

Sunoco Inc.'s (>> Sunoco, Inc.) Philadelphia refinery crude unit shut by a brief fire on May 9 is expected to restart on May 17, a person familiar with the plant said on May 14.
Phillips 66 (PSX) on May 12 said complex personnel worked to restore normal operations at its Sweeny refinery in Old Ocean, Texas, after power was restored following an interruption earlier in the day, according to a filing to state regulators. Several units were listed as the sources of the emissions, including the sulfur recovery complex and regenerative thermal oxidizer.
Flint Hills Resources, LP, on May 12 said the combination of coker unit maintenance and the restart of a compressor at the plant's hydrocracker unit caused an emissions and flaring at its in Corpus Christi, Texas, refinery, according to a filing to state regulators.
Shell Oil (RDSB.LN, RDSA.LN) on May 12 said a lube hydrocracking unit was shut unplanned at its joint venture Motiva refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, after a relatively brief fire at an associated heater, according to a filing to state regulators.
Pasadena Refining Systems Inc. on May 12 said the key gasoline-making fluid catalytic cracking unit at its oil refinery in Pasadena, Texas, was shut when a loss of power caused two steam-producing boilers to go off line. Repairs to the power system were commenced," the filing to the TCEQ said.
Chevron Corp. (>> Chevron Corporation) on May 12 said flaring was possible as a result of a planned shutdown of an unspecified unit at its Richmond, Calif., refinery. No other details were provided in the filing to state regulators.
Exxon Mobil Corp. (>> Exxon Mobil Corporation) on May 11 said a compressor malfunction at its oil refinery in Beaumont, Texas, resulted in flaring as emissions were routed to the plant's coker unit safety flare. Refinery personnel immediately took action to restart the compressor, a filing to state regulators said.
Valero Energy Corp. (>> Valero Energy Corporation) on May 11 said the restart of an FCCU at its McKee, Texas, refinery is underway following turnaround maintenance that began on March 31.
Exxon Mobil Corp. (>> Exxon Mobil Corporation) on May 11 said crude and coker unit turnaround maintenance at its Beaumont, Texas, refinery was completed and the units are at normal operations; the turnaround started on April 29. Separately, a hydrocracker unit was shut on May 10 for unplanned compressor repair. It will restart as soon as possible, the company said.
Citgo Petroleum Corp. on May 10 reported equipment failure and emissions at it's Lemont, Illinois, refinery to state environmental regulators. A portion of the plant has been off line since April 29 for 30 days of planned maintenance, a filing to environmental regulators said.
Valero Energy (>> Valero Energy Corporation) on May 10 said the restart of the Meraux, La., refinery alkylation unit and FCCU is being evaluated for cost-effectiveness. The units were shut Jan. 2 of extensive turnaround maintenance.
Restart activities continue at BP's (BP) Cherry Point refinery although the crude unit was shut down on May 9 for adjustments, a person familiar with operations at the plant said on May 10. The refinery is on track for mid-May return to service.
