The Telekom Austria Group today announced its cooperation with Fashion TV in the business field of satellite TV. Fashion TV launched their HD and SD channels on the Eutelsat 16A satellite, via the Telekom Austria Group's satellite platform direct2home. The channels of Fashion TV are now also included in the channel line-ups of the direct2home powered Pay-TV operators.

Simulcrypt agreement will make channels accessible for multiple operators

The Telekom Austria Group is one of the few providers to openly offer simulcrypt encryption via its direct2home platform on the Eutelsat 16A satellite. This way, channels can simultaneously be available in the line-up of multiple platform providers. Also, the signal of Fashion TV channels is now made available for distribution towards other Pay-TV operators via Eutelsat 16A.

The Telekom Austria Group's B2B "direct2home" solution enables Pay-TV operators in Central and Eastern Europe to launch their own DTH services with zero upfront investment on a white-label principle. The term DTH (Direct-to-Home) stands for the reception of TV signals via a satellite dish and a set-top-box, installed at the home of the customers. DTH is the preferred means to digitalization because the consumer transition can be implemented easily, quickly and cost-efficiently.

The Telekom Austria Group has designed and implemented an open broadcasting solution seamlessly combining one earth station, one encryption system and set-top boxes from multiple suppliers using its fiber network. The solution involves a B2B Direct-to-Home platform uplinking TV signals via Telekom Austria Group's earth station in Aflenz/Styria to the EUTELSAT16A satellite at the 16° East position for broadcasting to Central and Eastern Europe as well as wider regions of Western Europe. DTH as a reception technology can be used for Pay TV as well as for free-to-air channels.

The technical basis for the distribution of TV signals and data is the Group's high performance backbone in Central and Eastern Europe. The Aflenz earth station hosts more than 50 antennas, uplinking signals to satellites for broadcasting to the target regions.
