Starting November 5, calls from Squamish to Whistler and Metro Vancouver will be free local calls

Squamish, B.C. - Starting November 5, calls on TELUS' landline network from Squamish to Whistler and Metro Vancouver will be free local calls. Long distance charges will no longer apply for residential or business phone calls, and customers in Squamish will not need to dial "1" or "0" to have their calls to Whistler and Metro Vancouver completed.

"In addition to this being great news for the residents of Squamish, this will provide incredible benefits to the businesses that operate here," said Dan McRae, Economic Development Officer, District of Squamish. "The elimination of long distance charges will help support local businesses in their operations, making a positive impact on their bottom line."

"Squamish is booming with many families moving here to take advantage of the beautiful surroundings. We've been listening to our customers and recognize many of them make daily phone calls to family and friends in Vancouver, while many local businesses have partners operating out of Whistler," said Lisa LaMothe, TELUS general manager for Squamish. "Eliminating long distance charges for calls from Squamish to Metro Vancouver and Whistler will make life easier for families and businesses. This is another example of TELUS' commitment to putting our customers first."

There are no changes to Metro Vancouver's local calling area at this time.
