Ternium invests 1.1 billion dollars in this modern steel complex where high-end steel will be produced mainly for the automotive industry.

Ternium Industrial Center, steel complex that produces high-end steel mainly for the automotive industry, was inaugurated yesterday by the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, and Paolo Rocca, President of the Techint Group. This new complex, the most modern of its kind in Latin America, is a strategic steel project for Mexico's industrial system and represents the largest investment in the state of Nuevo León in the past 10 years of 1.1 billion dollars.

Through its two main production lines, four cold processes and high-tech services for its operation, this center will produce 1.5 million tons of cold rolled steel and 400,000 tons of galvanized steel, which will enable import substitution and contribute to greater competitiveness of the national industry. With over 600 direct and 460 indirect employments, this complex, located in the municipality of Pesqueria, in Nuevo Leon, will benefit the surrounding communities through training and technological development, as well as boost for suppliers and generation of economic flow contributing to a better quality of life.

"We celebrate today (yesterday) the start-up of Ternium Industrial Center, which required an investment of 1.1 billion dollars, which was finished in planned timing. Here we are in a strategic industrial project, which contributes to the production made in Mexico and provides to a growing industry in the country: the automobile", Rocca said in his speech.

"With this center, the Techint Group, which has more than 60 years in the country, confirms its commitment and long-term contribution to the industrial development of Mexico, cooperating with its growth, its ability to compete globally and with the benefit the communities where we operate can receive, such as Pesqueria, which will soon become a major industrial center of the region", added the President of Techint Group. In his message, Peña Nieto highlighted that Ternium Industrial Center in Pesqueria, is an example of the confidence of investors in this country.

"We are building solid and firm foundations, and new conditions for Mexico of the XXI century. In the context of this scenario, this contingency, at this juncture we are facing, the country's development is not halted, on the contrary, it continues, maintains, and I congratulate and recognize those investors, national and international with their commitment to Mexico's development, confident in its future", he said.

The opening ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo, the Governor of the state of Nuevo Leon, Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz, Daniel Novegil and Maximo Vedoya, CEO of Ternium and Executive President of Ternium Mexico, respectively; and the Executive Vice President of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, Shinya Higuchi, as well as 1000 people working in the Ternium Industrial Center, customers, government authorities, representatives of the media among other guests.

About the partnership between Ternium and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation in Tenigal, an emblematic project of cooperation between Japan and Mexico, Higuchi thanked for the support given to the company in order to invest in this project.

"The automotive industry in Mexico continues to grow strongly, and many vehicle manufacturers are building or expanding their facilities. We are committed to contribute to the growth of this important Mexican industry and the economy as a whole through Tenigal "said the Japanese manager, who despite of not speaking Spanish, gave these words in that language, a fact that was celebrated by the attendees.

About the Ternium Industrial Center Ternium Industrial Center, is a steel complex that produces high-end steel mainly for the automotive industry.

Ternium Cold Rolling The Cold Rolling area consists of the Pickling Line - Tandem Cold Mill and cold processes.

Pickling Line - Tandem Cold Mill (PLTCM) is a process of chemical cleaning to the steel, an adaptation of the width and reducing the thickness of the sheet, ensuring an optimum flatness and surface quality.

Cold Processes (Electrolytic Cleaning, Annealing Batch, Temper Mill, and Tension Leveler) eliminate wastes, provides mechanical properties and improves the flatness and superficial quality of the steel.

Investment: 1.1 billion dollars.

Tenigal and the Continuos Galvanizing Line

Tenigal was born from the strategico alliance of two steel industry companies, Ternium with services in Latin America and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation with worldwide operations.

Tenigal is a company dedicated to the manufacture and commercialization of galvanized steel by hot dip and galvannealed. It is used for the manufacture of auto parts to meet the demands of the automotive industry in Mexico. Tenigal has a cutting edge technology and integrated processes from its partners. This ensures the high quality of its products.

The Tenigal Continuous Galvanizing Line is a production system which gives the steel formability characteristics and corrosion resistance, through a heat treatment and a zinc coating.

Highlights

* One of the first steel complexes in Mexico born under a sustainable approach. The design, planning, construction and technology, all with long-term vision, integrate a project in sync with the environment. * It has an ambitious plan ongoing, the first of its kind and scale in Mexico, for the conservation of the flora and fauna of the region. With this plan, we have rescued more than 17,500 species and 19,500 specimens of native flora were planted. * The Ternium Industrial Center was built under enviroment regulations which are expected to help it obtain the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, developed by the Green Building Council in the United States.
