Dow Building Solutions today introduced GREAT STUFF™ Pestblock Insulating Foam Sealant, a distinctive, pesticide-free foam specially designed to seal homes against insects and other pests as well as reduce air leakage.

GREAT STUFF™ Pestblock provides a long-lasting, moisture resistant foam barrier that blocks out pests by sealing gaps, cracks and holes where they enter a home. This new addition to the GREAT STUFF™ family is designed to keep ants, roaches, spiders, bees, mice and other rodents outside where they belong, while also air-sealing the household structure. GREAT STUFF™ Pestblock expands to fill, seal and insulate gaps up to one inch (25 mm), reducing the need to reapply pesticides regularly.

"GREAT STUFF™ Pestblock Insulating Foam Sealant provides a barrier between your family and pests while also improving your home's energy efficiency by sealing gaps and cracks," said Lee Heronema, retail operational marketing manager for Dow Building Solutions. "Homeowners that properly air-seal and insulate their homes can save up to 20 percent on heating and cooling costs1."

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Environmental Protection Agency both recommend following an integrated pest management program to rid the home of disease carrying pests. Blocking pests out is a key component of any integrated pest management program. GREAT STUFF™ Pestblock is an ideal product for sealing gaps and cracks in common household trouble spots where pests enter the home, including:

  • Gaps surrounding PVC pipes in the attic or throughout the home interior
  • Openings around dryer and other exhaust vents
  • Sill plates and rim joists
  • Under baseboards
  • Household plumbing and exterior water faucets
  • Around attic hatch frames

Dow Building Solutions developed GREAT STUFF™ Pestblock for consumers who are frustrated by frequent reapplication of pesticides that typically only address the pests visible at the time of application. It is also beneficial to those homeowners sensitive to the use of pesticides, those who don't want to use pesticides around their family or pets, and individuals who don't use pesticides because of environmental concerns. GREAT STUFF™ Pestblock contains a bitter, non-pesticide ingredient, Denatonium Benzoate, an additive that has been used for years to make a variety of products, such as electrical wire casing, that deter pests and other animals.

GREAT STUFF™ Pestblock Insulating Foam Sealant will be available at home improvement stores in March.
