For the second time in a row the nongovernmental organization CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project) has named thyssenkrupp as one of the best companies worldwide in climate protection in 2017. The award will be presented in Brussels on November 20.

CDP's scoring system assesses whether companies have formulated a coherent strategy on how to further improve their own environmental performance as well as that of customers and suppliers. thyssenkrupp once again achieved the highest score possible and was placed on CDP's global 'A List'. The list includes roughly 100 businesses worldwide and only three DAX companies.

Several thousand companies worldwide took part in the program, which CDP conducts on behalf of more than 800 investors with assets worth USD100 trillion. The organization holds the world's largest collection of corporate climate data.

When it comes to climate protection thyssenkrupp focuses on continuous efficiency improvements and long-term innovation leaps - both for its customers and its own processes. 'Despite the major challenges there are good reasons to be optimistic,' says Reinhold Achatz, thyssenkrupp technology chief. 'From a technology point of view we already have many solutions for the right steps towards a green-house gas-neutral world which we are developing for industrial use.'

In the cross-sector project Carbon2Chem® thyssenkrupp is working with partners from business, science and government to convert CO2-containing steel mill gases into base chemicals on an industrial scale. And storage solutions such as redox flow batteries and water electrolysis systems from thyssenkrupp can create power buffers to allow industrial processes to continue working when not enough renewable energy is available.
