Toyota City, Japan, September 1, 2011—Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces today that Tianjin FAW Toyota Engine Co., Ltd. (TFTE), an engine-manufacturing joint venture TMC established with China FAW Group Corporation (FAW), recently reached cumulative production of two million engines.
Commenting on the milestone, Akira Sasaki, TMC senior managing officer and regional chief officer of China, said: "TFTE's cumulative production of 2 million engines is the result of cooperative work to produce Toyota vehicles that meet the needs of Chinese consumers. We are proud to say that TFTE has grown hand in hand with the Chinese automobile industry and has contributed to China and its economy."
In 1996, TMC, through a joint venture with Tianjin Automobile Industry (Group) Co., Ltd., established Tianjin Toyota Motor Engine Co., Ltd. (TTME), its first engine production base in China. Production of "A" engines began in 1998, and in 2003, a joint venture with FAW was formed, with the establishment of TFTE following in 2006. On May 16, 2011, TFTE marked its 15th anniversary.
TMC will continue to meet the needs of a broad range of vehicle users in China based on its founding philosophy of contributing to society through the manufacture of ever-better cars, while working to support the development of the Chinese automobile industry by creating jobs and developing human resources.
