Ukrtelekom PAT : Ukrtelecom takes part in the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the creation of the International Telecommunication Union and the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day

May 17, 2015 marked the 150th anniversary of the creation of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) which unites 193 countries and more than 700 organizations, companies and academic institutions on the basis of public-private partnership. Ukrtelecom has its own representative in ITU so we have taken part in celebrations dedicated to the anniversary of this international organization.

In Ukraine, official events at the state level in honor of the 150thanniversary of the International Telecommunication Union and the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day which were held on May 15, 2015, were organized by the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection.

Over the past 25 years, one of Ukrtelecom representatives has been a regular member of this authoritative international organization. Today, Viktor Katok, Ukrtelecom JSC Chief Science & Technology Adviser, is the Deputy Chairman of Study Group 15 (Networks, Technologies and Infrastructures for Transport, Access and Home) of ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector.

"The history of ITU began 150 years ago with the signing of the International Telegraph Convention, and since then the organization has been directly involved in the rapid progress we see in communications, telecommunications and development of the Internet. The advanced high-tech standards in this field which are employed in the whole world are the result of work of study groups and committees of ITU. And Ukraine makes its contribution to this process", said Viktor Katok.

Official events dedicated to the anniversary of ITU in our country have been attended by Volodymyr Zverev, Chairman of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection, Oleksandr Danchenko, Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee for Informatization and Communications, Oleksandr Zhyvotovskyi, Chairman of the National Commission for the State Regulation of Communications and Informatization, and Oleksandr Ryzhenko, Chairman of the State Agency of Ukraine for Electronic Control.
