SOME homes and businesses in parts of Stockport have been left without water for several hours this morning due to multiple-burst pipes.

Engineers, attended reports of water spilling onto Windmill Lane, only to find a black BMW jeep parked directly over the burst, and were unable to locate the owner for several hours delaying the repair.

During rush hour, a second burst was reported on the busy B6167 main Gorton Road at the junction of Furnival Street requiring emergency traffic management to be put in place.

We [United Utilities] transported more water into Stockport using a network of underground pipes to meet breakfast time peak demand but a number of households still reported low pressure in areas.

Water engineers were still at both locations with additional crews being sent to a further report on Alderley Road to examine local pipework this lunchtime.
