Nearly 50% of Vectren gas customers have chosen a supplier

Dayton, Ohio - After more than a decade since the debut of Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio's (Vectren) natural gas Choice program, through which customers can choose a third-party natural gas supplier, nearly 50 percent of Vectren's Choice-eligible customers have actively selected a natural gas supplier. This is the highest percentage since the program debuted in 2002.
"The Choice program was designed to give residential and small business customers options when it comes to a natural gas supplier, as some prefer a fixed rate for their natural gas supply costs, while others prefer a variable rate," said Colleen Ryan, president of Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio. "The options continue to grow for customers; in fact, we began the program with only three Choice supplier options and have grown to 12."
Current Choice suppliers that are actively marketing to customers in Vectren's service territory include: Constellation Energy, Direct Energy, FTR Energy, IGS Energy, Integrys Energy Services, Just Energy, North American Power and Gas, Ohio Natural Gas, Palmco Energy, Vectren Source, Volunteer Energy Services and Xoom Energy Ohio.
"Our research has found that many customers have not actively chosen a supplier believing they are staying with Vectren, when in reality, Vectren has not been supplying gas since 2008," added Ryan. "Vectren will always deliver the gas to our customers, respond to emergencies and maintain billing and customer service, but our customers' gas supply always comes from one of our supply partners - and it's up to the customer to decide which one."
Customers who have not actively chosen a supplier are not served by Vectren; instead, they are served by one of three Standard Choice Offer (SCO) suppliers - Direct Energy, DTE Energy Supply or Hess Corporation. The SCO price is a variable rate and fluctuates each month with the natural gas pricing market.

Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio delivers natural gas to approximately 315,000 customers in all or portions of Auglaize, Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clinton, Darke, Fayette, Greene, Highland, Logan, Madison, Miami, Montgomery, Pickaway, Preble, Shelby and Warren counties.
