NEW YORK, May 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon has won an INTERNET TELEPHONY 2010 BSS/OSS Excellence Award for three components of its Information Technology systems architecture that are creating exceptional value and efficiency for Verizon customers.

Each year the publication recognizes a select group of companies for business support systems and operations support systems that greatly contribute to the success of its clients' businesses.

"The goal of IT work is to improve processes and create industrial scale automation that deliver real benefits for our customers and serve as a competitive advantage in the marketplace. It's an honor to be recognized for our technical achievements as we pursue innovative programs that enable technology and operational excellence," said Mustansir Jhaveri, Verizon vice president for Enterprise IT.

Verizon's three recognized IT programs are projects that:

-- deliver and manage SIP profiles for VoIP-enabled FiOS digital voice
customers. This scalable, highly available and geo-diverse platform
processed 3.2 billion SIP transactions in 2010, the first year the
        product rolled out.
-- create an automated service delivery platform that orchestrates complex
work-steps related to customer orders and performs them across
        geographically dispersed work-centers.
    -- provide flow-through activation for a variety of unified-communications
elements. Within 12 months of its launch, this platform experienced a
700-percent increase in order-volume, with scalability to manage even
        more volume.

Together, the latter two platforms support unified-communications and have enabled the rapid launch of innovative products such as fixed mobile convergence, immersive video and IP audio-conferencing.

Erik Linask, INTERNET TELEPHONY'S editorial director, said, "The BSS/OSS Excellence Awards provide recognition for contribution to the growth of and innovation displayed in an increasingly complex and vital market. Only the companies who presented the best and most compelling solutions are deemed worthy of our 2010 BSS/OSS Excellence Awards."

Winners of the BSS/OSS Excellence Awards are highlighted in the May 2011 issue of INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine.
