Pengerang Independent Terminals Sdn Bhd (PITSB) announced the arrival of its first product by vessel to its independent crude oil and petroleum products storage facility at Pengerang.

Pengerang Terminal (previously known as Pengerang Deepwater Petroleum Terminal) is a deepwater terminals development supporting the oil and gas industry in Pengerang on 500 acres of reclaimed sea-bed land. It is located along major international shipping routes at the southeastern tip of Peninsular Malaysia.

Phase 1 of Pengerang Terminal covers 150 acres of reclaimed sea-bed land with initial storage capacity of approximately 1.3 million cbm. It is owned by PITSB, a joint venture among Dialog Group Berhad, Royal Vopak and State Secretary, Johor (Incorporated). Phase 1A was completed last month and it consists of 25 tanks with a total storage capacity of 432,000 cbm for clean petroleum products.

Commenting on this occasion, Dr. Ngau said, "This is a historic moment as we work towards the transformation of Pengerang into a regional oil and gas hub. We are confident that Phase 1 of Pengerang Terminal operated by PITSB will serve its purpose to meet the growing need for storage capacity of crude oil and petroleum products in Southeast Asia and the Asia region."

Mr. van der Voort said, "The Pengerang independent oil terminal (Phase 1) is one of Vopak's most important projects in Asia, catering to the growing energy demand in the region. We are pleased to announce the official addition of PITSB into our global network of 80 terminals across 29 countries, and look forward to serving our customers at the new terminal."

Phase 1B and Phase 1C are progressing according to schedule with expected mechanical completion by Q2 2014 and Q4 2014 respectively. Phase 1B (426,000 cbm) is developed for storage of clean petroleum products and Phase 1C (426,000 cbm) provides storage, blending and distribution services for crude.

Also, as Southeast Asia's first independent land based storage facility for crude, Phase 1 of Pengerang Terminal comes with jetty facilities capable of handling very large crude carriers up to a maximum draft of 24 meters.
