• New store located in Delta Park Center
  • Features 40,600 square foot eco-roof
  • Delta Park store creates approximately 270 new jobs
  • Store open 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week

"Walmart's new Delta Park store brings another great shopping option to north and northeast Portland families, as well as much needed jobs to our region," said Sandra McDonough, President and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance. "Walmart has been a tremendous partner in the Portland community, and we are grateful for their continued investment here."

One-Stop Shopping Convenience

The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites. Some local products available include Bob's Red Mill, Dave's Killer Bread, Reser Fine Foods, Tillamook brand cheeses, local produce and local craft beers.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions.

Sustainability

As part of Walmart's sustainability initiative, the new store includes a 40,600 square-foot eco-roof. The vegetated roof system will be the largest private eco-roof in Portland and Walmart's fourth eco-roof in the country. The eco-roof will decrease runoff, save energy and absorb carbon dioxide. Portland State University's Green Building Research Lab will study the roof's eco-impact using remote sensors and a weather station.

The new Portland Walmart also includes energy-efficient technology and environmentally friendly features to reduce energy and water consumption and minimize waste. The store's skylights harvest daylight and reduce the amount of energy required to light the store. The cement used in the concrete flooring is made with recycled materials, and the floor's finish decreases the need for chemical cleaners. Low-flow toilets and faucets reduce the water used in the bathrooms.

Community Giving

In addition to the $133,000 donation to Portland State University to study, monitor and research the store's green roof, the grand-opening celebration also includes grant presentations from Walmart to local community groups including Rosemary Anderson High School, Sunshine Division and Oregon Veteran's Home.

As part of Walmart's Oregon State Giving Program, $28,000 will be presented to the Portland Rescue Mission to expand services for homeless men, women and children.

The new store will also further Walmart's pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart's and the Walmart Foundation's $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Oregon donated approximately 2.2 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 1.8 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $5.3 million in fiscal year 2013 in Oregon alone. The new store employs approximately 270 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Robin Morse began her Walmart career in 1997 as a part-time hourly associate working in electronics in the Eugene-area.

"We are excited to open this amazing new store just in time for the holidays," Morse said. "We look forward to serving our community and helping people save money so they can live better."

A Big Family Welcome

Walmart is happy to be part of the Portland community and is ready to celebrate with residents Saturday, Nov. 16. A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet store manager Morse and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. Join the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
