There is so much small business owners need to know to operate at peak performance. Luckily we live in the Information Age with plentiful resources. To help you sift through some of the data, every week we're going to look at three business books and the lessons you can learn from reading them.

How to Get Unstuck: 25 Ways to Get Your Business Growing Again ($19.95)

Let me state upfront that the author is a friend of mine, and we've collaborated on several projects. I even wrote the foreword for the book. That said, this book will actually help you get out of whatever rut you happen to be in-something that afflicts many an entrepreneur.

Moltz tackles the 25 most common ways he believes small business owners get stuck and not only tells you how to get unstuck, but also provides real-life examples of small businesses that experienced just what you're going through.

There's a lot to learn here, from what to do if your sales skills are rooted in 1989 to how to deal with actually hating your customers. If you've even seen Moltz speak, you know he's a funny guy, and that sense of humor is evident throughout the book, making it a fun read as well as a useful one.

The Unexpected: Breakthrough Strategies to Supercharge Your Business and Earn Loyal Customers for Life ($24.95)

By Howard Brodsky with Dustin S. Klein

Howard Brodsky is a serial entrepreneur and has won awards for his efforts. So you can trust him when he says, "Delivering world-class service is no longer good enough." Instead, he says, it's now about the "experience." Brodsky believes when your business "delivers a 'wow' moment for employees, customers, vendors or partners, they not only remember it, they remember you."

These experiences are what enable you to stand apart from your competitors. Too many businesses, Brodsky says, try to be memorable by being loud, being flashy or creating buzz. Instead he says, "Your actions must be sustainable." The idea is to develop systems that enable you to "deliver unexpected service." The Unexpected tells you how to do exactly that.

Speakrets®: The 30 Best, Most Effective, Most Overlooked Marketing and Personal Branding Essentials

By Ruth Sherman

Ruth Sherman, also known as the "Speech Coach to the Stars," believes most of us don't communicate as well as we could because we lack the proper training. Her mission is to change that by sharing her "Speakrets." Sherman defines a Spreakret as "a best practice" in communications, whether that's giving a speech, shooting a video or managing the sound and tone of your voice.

Sherman shares 30 of her best tips in this book. Each chapter starts with a "truth," then explains how you can achieve that goal and ends with a Speakret toolkit. This book is an easy read and filled with practical advice you can put into practice immediately.
