Wow…

It's hard to believe that ".com" turns 30 this year!

Of course, ".com" is the Internet's first-ever top-level domain (the top-of-the-top), introduced back in 1985. The name, ".com" was derived from the word, "commercial", indicating its original intended purpose for domains registered by commercial organizations. Today, it used by both commercial and non-commercial websites. The domain was originally administered by the Department of Defense, but today is operated by international registry / Internet security leader and Web.com partner, Verisign. Together, we're celebrating .com's 30th birthday.

The entry period for Verisign's #Internet Official contest began earlier this month, and is continuing through April 30th, 2015. Individuals who register a .com domain name between now and then through Verisign or any participating Partner (including Web.com, NetworkSolutions.com and Register.com), can then visit the www.verisigninternetofficial.com contest site to submit their name and business idea, explaining in 500 words or less, why both are so awesome!

Participants will be able to promote their entries through their social networks to accumulate votes. The public's votes, along with the professional opinions of an all-star panel of celebrity judges including Celebrity Apprentice, Bill Rancic; Shark Tank icon and entrepreneur, Lori Greiner; Small Business Trends CEO, Anita Campbell; TheDomains Owner/Publisher/Investor Michael Berkens; and Igor CEO Steve Manning, a naming expert for over 17 years; will then select 5 winners each month!

All monthly winners will receive $5,000 each and then have the opportunity to submit a video explaining the beauty of their entries, while competing for $30,000 more! Imagine launching your .com with a total of $35,000 in cash, plus the attention of millions of prospective customers around the world. Better yet, don't imagine it, and just go DO IT!
