$50,000 grant for American Red Cross Spring Storms fund
INDIANAPOLIS - March 23, 2012 - To help communities across the Midwest recover from severe storms and tornados, WellPoint today announced that its corporate foundation has granted $50,000 to the American Red Cross 2012 Spring Storms fund. The Red Cross is using the funds to provide food, shelter and other relief to impacted individuals and families in states such as Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and Ohio.
"The men and women of WellPoint are committed to improving the lives of the people we serve and the health of our communities," said Lance Chrisman, executive director of the WellPoint Foundation. "Our hearts go out to those affected by the recent severe weather, and we thank the Red Cross for all they are doing to provide comfort and support when it is needed the most."
WellPoint, its foundation and associates are longstanding
supporters of the Red Cross, and the organization is one of
six charities included in the company's Associate Giving
Campaign. In 2011, pledges from WellPoint associates,
combined with a 50 percent match from the WellPoint
Foundation, resulted in Red Cross chapters receiving more
than $500,000 through the annual campaign. Also last
year, the WellPoint Foundation made a $100,000 donation to
the Red Cross for storm relief efforts in Georgia, Virginia
and Missouri. In recognition of this ongoing support,
the Red Cross has named the WellPoint Foundation a member of
its Annual Disaster Giving Program.
