ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. (June 27, 2017) - Whole Foods Market's next 5 percent Community Giving Day in New York City will take place on Wednesday, June 28. Five percent of the day's sales from all 11 current New York City stores will benefit Teens for Food Justice's upcoming 1,400 square foot student-built farm at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Educational Campus, located in Lincoln Square. The urban farm is slated to open in Fall 2017 and will grow in excess of 20,000 pounds of produce annually for the school, its students and at-risk families.

'At Whole Foods Market, it is a core value that healthy eating is a foundation for overall health and well-being, which makes this partnership with Teens for Food Justice particularly exciting,' said Christina Minardi, president of Whole Foods Market's Northeast Region. 'We are always looking for new and innovative ways to improve access to fresh, healthy food for everyone in the New York communities that we serve.'

Teens for Food Justice is a New York City based non-profit that aims to provide access to healthy food for all New Yorkers. They educate students in nutrition, health and urban farming, and also build hydroponic farms at Title 1 schools to supply their cafeterias with fresh and healthy produce. The Teens for Food Justice school farms also serve the broader community, acting as youth-led centers for nutrition and health outreach in low-income or food desert communities.
