With Britain braced for Storm Caroline, the bookies are bracing themselves for a potential £1m payout should a White Christmas happen.

William Hill believes that should snow fall in every city being offered, then a seven figure sum could be paid out by the industry.

As it stands at Hills, Aberdeen, Belfast, Glasgow and Edinburgh are all 7/4 to see that magical single snowflake, while Leeds and Newcastle are 5/2.

London, amongst others is just 4/1 to see snow on Christmas Day.

'For the first time in a number of years, we are fretting over snow as the sustained cold snap that we are experiencing has prompted a number of people to back a White Christmas,' said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. 'The million pound snowflake could well make its return this year.'

White Christmas Odds (William Hill): 7/4 Aberdeen; 7/4 Belfast; 7/4 Edinburgh; 7/4 Glasgow; 5/2 Leeds; 5/2 Newcastle; 4/1 Birmingham; 4/1 Liverpool; 4/1 London; 4/1 Manchester; 4/1 Norwich; 6/1 Bristol; 6/1 Cardiff; 6/1 Dublin; 8/1 Penzance
