New solutions for the automated checkout zone
Consumers increasingly want to check out at stores in a way
that is tailored to their individual needs. This market
trend means that self-service solutions also have to
reflect the desire for greater individualization.
That's why Wincor Nixdorf offers a flexible and modular
portfolio for the automated checkout zone, with a solution
to suit every retail business - regardless of the store
concept, sector or shop size. As part of adapting its
automated checkout portfolio to market requirements, Wincor
Nixdorf is showcasing a new system at Wincor World
2012.
The new POS solution BEETLE /iSCAN EASY Hybrid can be used
flexibly as a self-checkout or a traditional POS, without
the usual need to make changes or conversions to the
system. Retailers can use the lane with an operator, or
instantly convert it into a self-checkout, then convert it
back into a traditional lane configuration and so on.
Customers can request assistance from the retailer at the
checkout, and with a single click the retailer can take
control of the transaction to better assist their customer.
And because the BEETLE /iSCAN EASY Hybrid is so easy to
use, one assistant can supervise several systems at the
same time.
The heart of all Wincor Nixdorf Automated Checkout
solutions is the TPiSCAN software platform - the
world's most widely used self-checkout framework - that
controls all self-checkout processes. TPiSCAN can be
integrated quickly and easily in the existing POS
application and already supports more than 50 different POS
applications. Because of the release independence between
the solution and POS application, TPiSCAN is automatically
available, even after the application is updated without
requiring for any adaptation effort. As a result, retailers
can use TPiSCAN permanently and safeguard their investments
long term.
The advanced portfolio also includes Wincor Nixdorf's
most successful self-service solution is the Tower Line
150. The solution is also being showcased at our trade fair
show as both a self-checkout variant and self-service
payment terminal. The system family is being presented with
CINEO cash components and as a non-cash solution offering
components for payment by card.
A further solution from the automated checkout portfolio is
the Tower Line 50. Thanks to its small footprint and
quality design (up to four checkout solutions over one
square meter) the solution is also suitable for small shops
and even convenience stores.
The next generation of scanning technology with improved
reading units for barcode recognition is now available for
the new 360 Scan Portal, a fully automated POS solution
with a 360-degree scanner system. It enables a stable scan
rate of 98 percent and is thus a crucial step closer to the
goal of 99.5 percent, which has already been achieved in
some cases. In addition, integration of an image reader
enables object recognition. It reliably indicates to
service staff that a product cannot be scanned, for example
because the barcode is damaged. The article can then be
entered separately by the assistant, thus ensuring that all
items are included in the receipt. Customers also have a
flexible interface for smart control of the bagging area.
The free bagging area can be controlled electronically at
the touch of a button using TPiSCAN's graphical user
interface (GUI). Professional use of the still young
360-degree scanner technology is thus coming more and more
of a reality.
Apart from the systems presented at Wincor World 2012,
Wincor Nixdorf is continously evolving its portfolio of
automated checkout solutions, ensuring now and in the
future that market requirements can be addressed at all
times by suitable solutions.
