Wirecard : presents PCI DSS-compliant industry solution for the online travel market (ITB 2015)

Wirecard will be presenting an innovative solution for the travel industry at the ITB Berlin 2015, which is the world's leading travel and tourism trade show. Now more than ever, online travel agents (OTA) and tour operators must tackle the challenge of complying with the PCI DSS certification requirements for the processing and transmission of sensitive card data. By expanding its tokenisation service, Wirecard is enabling secure card payment processing in a PCI-compliant manner. Data which has been encrypted to a token can now be used in a variety of ways as required along the entire booking process. The token can be transferred between different systems at any at every stage of the booking process, or converted back into credit card data.

"Any company handling confidential data will be affected by higher demands in future. Our solution will particularly appeal to OTAs and tour operators, as it will enable them to eliminate the need for a comprehensive and cost-intensive internal audit," explains Jörg Möller, Executive Vice President Travel & Mobility, Wirecard. Via an interface to the hosted payment page, Wirecard ensures card data is securely transferred in a PCI-compliant way along the entire booking process. Sensitive and confidential data is replaced by a token and the original data stored in the Wirecard's external tokenisation server. At any time during the booking process, the token can be used dynamically or exchanged, used and debited against the original card data.

The German tourism company COMVEL GmbH will be the first to use this solution in their online travel booking portal weg.de. "As a travel agent, we are delighted to have found such a competent partner in Wirecard. With their support, we have put in place a secure process for accepting and transmitting credit card information in a PCI-compliant way according to the highest security standards," says Wolfgang Lehr, Managing Director at COMVEL GmbH.
