Woolworths : New Woolworths Beecroft opens single-use plastic bag free

Wednesday, 20 September 2017: Opening today, the new Woolworths Beecroft in Sydney's North-West is the first full line supermarket in New South Wales to be single-use plastic bag free.

The decision to open the new store without offering customers single-use plastic bags follows Woolworths commitment earlier this year to go single-use plastic bag free across all supermarkets nationwide by 30 June 2018.

Woolworths Beecroft Store Manager, Janet Stoffels said; 'We know that many in the local Beecroft community have been advocating for a single use plastic bag shopping free experience, and our commitment from day one of opening the store is the first step in Woolworths journey to go single-use plastic bag free across all supermarkets by mid next year.'

Woolworths customers will have access to a range of alternative shopping bag options in stores, including thicker reusable versions at different price points to suit their needs.

The new store has also provided significant employment opportunities for the area, with 143 new jobs created amongst the 164 strong team.

Janet Stoffels said; 'We are pleased to offer significant employment opportunities for those in Sydney's North-West, with many of the younger members of the team starting their first job with the opening of the store.'

The new Woolworths Beecroft features wide aisles for a convenient shopping experience, a full production bakery, a deli with separate seafood and meat sections and a fresh marketplace feel to the fruit and vegetables section.

Janet Stoffels said: 'We spent a great deal of time understanding what local shoppers were looking for and are proud to also offer Beecroft a new and modern shopping experience.

'Our aim is to always provide great quality, value and fresh options for all our customers and to make meal shopping and preparation easier.

'With 100 percent of our fresh meat and 96 percent of fresh fruit and vegetables sourced from Australia, the store has been designed to also showcase the wonderful seasonality of our produce and provide further food inspiration for our customers.'

Woolworths Beecroft customers will also be able to enjoy Pick Up, a convenient online shopping collection service in-store. As part of the national roll-out, a dedicated team of six personal shoppers at Woolworths Beecroft will hand pick and pack each online order according to customer's' preferences.

Opening hours for Woolworths Beecroft are Monday to Sunday 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
