Regulatory News:

XIRING (Paris:ALXIR), a security solutions provider for electronic transactions, reveals its new line of smart-card readers aimed at the e-ID markets.

The emerging market of electronic identity includes the infrastructures associated with the implementation and use of ?secure identity documents? such as electronic national identity cards, electronic passports, government agent cards, public transport cards, as well as any and all professional official smart cards .

There are many uses for secure electronic identity documents:

  • In professional administrative contexts, an agent card, with a secure card reader, makes it possible to authenticate administrative agents in order to secure access to workstations and the network, authorize and secure access to confidential data, and generate electronic signatures for administrative e-documents.
  • As regards uses in the private sector, electronic identity cards, used at home with a USB card reader connected to the family computer, make it possible to obtain authorization remotely for online services, sign contracts electronically online, recharge a public transport card, etc.

In order to meet the needs of these markets, XIRING is launching a line of seven electronic identification readers, each corresponding to a specification, a use or a specific need.

The new line of eID card readers is broken down into three product categories:

  • The Teo category of USB readers includes four smart card readers meeting industry standards (PC/SC, CCID, ISO7816/14443, compatible with Windows, MacOS and Linux):
    • Teo by XIRING: a high-performance USB card reader, specifically ergonomic and distributed through e-commerce channel (http://www.teobyxiring.com and http://www.teobyxiring.be, with other national sites to come);
    • Liteo: a high-performance USB reader, optimized for government programs and mass deployment;
    • Porteo: a portable USB reader that can always be at hand, particularly adapted for public transport cards scheme;
    • Diteo: a dual-interface desktop USB reader for reading contact and/or Contactless smart cards.
  • The Leo category of secure USB card readers with integrated display and keypad offers secure management of PINs (e.g. ?Secure PIN Entry? functionality), fully integrated in the reader and in line with industry standards (PC/SC v2, CCID, Windows, MacOS, Linux, ANTS Middleware used by the French Administration):
    • Leo by XIRING: secure desktop USB card reader for professional use, for authentication and electronic signature with secure management of PINs. Its design meets international security standards requirements. This is the product the French National Gendarmerie uses for its workstations.
    • MyLeo: personal portable version of XIRING's Leo secure card reader, MyLeo also offers an unconnected PC-free mode for travel needs or mixed IT environments.
  • The Codeo, an autonomous reader with a display and keypad for the general public, used for consulting information on smart cards and generating authentication codes for remote services, without being connected to a computer. XIRING thus anticipates future uses for secure identity documents and stakes its claim as an expert in secure remote access in travel mode.

?The expansion of our e-ID offer allows us to provide relevant answers for the large-scale government programs currently being deployed or under preparation in Europe. We have chosen to build a coherent line of smart card readers to meet all of the various needs of both professionals and the general public. Some of the products of this line have already met with commercial success, thus putting us in a favorable position for future programs,? states Georges Liberman, XIRING's Chairman and CEO.
