Yusen Logistics (China) Co., Ltd. has launched a direct "Less than Container Load" (LCL) own consolidation service from Nansha in Guangzhou, China to Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan. Started in May, the new service is a first for a Japanese logistics company.

Previously, ocean freight from the Guangzhou area was first sent to Hong Kong by feeder ships, loaded on to primary transportation vessels, and then shipped to Japan; generating a lead time of approximately 15 days. With this new service, freight is loaded at Nansha Container Freight Station (CFS), and then shipped directly to Japan; significantly shortening lead time to approximately ten days. This has further reduced the potential for cargo damage since reloading is no longer required, improving transportation quality.

The new service is a direct response to the increasing demand for high-frequency, small-lot transportation - primarily driven by the growth of the automotive parts industry. Previously, LCL freight from the Guangzhou area was subject to co-loading; now, with the introduction of its own direct consolidation service, the company operates four lanes from China to Japan, including, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and now Guangzhou.

With the new lane now in operation, and demonstrating how high the demand is for automotive logistics services - particularly between Nansha to Thailand, Yusen Logistics is looking to increase both the number and scope of its services; strengthening sales and giving customers the optimum solutions in ocean freight transportation.
