International stocks trading in New York closed mostly higher Monday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts improved 0.3% to 145.11. The European index increased 0.2% to 136.15. The Asian index rose 1% to 174.81. And the emerging-markets index was up 0.5% at 296.18.

Meanwhile, the Latin American index fell 2.8% to 193.85.

HSBC Holdings PLC and SOS Ltd. were among those whose ADRs traded actively.


China's Ping An Insurance has quietly taken up the role of shareholder activist, putting pressure on HSBC to consider a shake-up that could reshape one of the world's biggest financial institutions. HSBC closed 0.4% lower at $30.89.


SOS Ltd.'s 2021 revenue surged to $357.8 million, helped by the addition of crypto-mining and commodity trading operations. The Chinese company said its traditional business of insurance marketing posted a 34% revenue increase to $65.9 million. ADRs rose 40% to 59 cents.
