(MT Newswires) -- Andrew Feldman, CEO of Cerebras Systems, points out that the third generation of their chip enables the same work to be done in half the time without any increase in price. The chip contains four trillion transistors, making it the largest ever produced in the computer industry. It is optimised for training AI jobs, particularly large generative AI models, and halves the time needed to complete these projects.

The chip also halves the cost per unit of computation and is the basis for a new supercomputer that the company is building. Feldman says the chip represents a big leap forward for Cerebras and for the industry. This advance means that AI-based mapping software and recommendation engines will work more efficiently. Generative AI models such as ChatGPT will be cheaper and more powerful, having a greater impact in business and leisure. Feldman concludes that the acceleration of computation allows AI to spread more widely in the economy and in the way we live, work and play.
