Health-care companies rose after strong earnings from UnitedHealth Group alleviated fears about the impact of rising medical on health insurers.

The healthcare giant's first-quarter adjusted earnings topped Wall Street's estimates, despite a cyberattack that paralyzed national databases and weighed on earnings. The theft of medical data was perpetrated by a Russian gang known as ALPHV, or BlackCat.

Johnson & Johnson fell after the health-care conglomerate's earnings lagged some investors' expectations.

Shares of ProPhase Labs rallied after the biotech and diagnostic firm unveiled a new project that utilizes an AI platform and its massive genomics database.
