Among stocks, iron pellet producer Ferrexpo dropped 1.1% due to the detention of its controlling shareholder, Kostyantyn Zhevago, by French authorities. This is despite the group saying this is not related to the company.

BP plc and Shell declined by 1.3% and 1% respectively on reports that offshore exploration bids in Trinidad and Tobago were rejected due to a failure to meet minimum requirements.
