Sterling Could Fall Further Vs Euro on ECB-BOE Divergence

0958 GMT - Sterling has scope to weaken further against the euro as the European Central Bank could tighten monetary policy more than the Bank of England next year, MUFG Bank says. Sterling remains the third worst performing G10 currency in 2022 to date, MUFG analyst Derek Halpenny says in a note. The euro, on the other hand, is close to the top of the G10 performance table in the year-to-date with only the dollar and Swiss franc outperforming the euro, he says. "That's quite a stat when you consider the war in Ukraine and recession the eurozone is now probably in." EUR/GBP rises to a five-week high of 0.8798, according to FactSet. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
