1545 ET - Gold shares are up 1.3%, taking its cue from gold futures that settled at another all-time record high at $2,261 an ounce. The uptick in shares comes as open interest data shows that precious metals maintained its record-high open interest of approximately $181.9 billion, according to data from JPM Global Commodities Research. "While investor positioning was showing growing signs of exhaustion given the modest reductions through late-March, fresh pops higher in both gold and silver prices in the last few trading sessions has likely revitalized investor interest in the sector to start the new quarter," says the firm.
