After rising by 0.3% in February, business inventories in the USA fell by 0.1% in March, according to figures released on Wednesday by the Commerce Department.

Inventories of furniture, appliances, food, beverages and apparel fell in particular, according to the statistics.

Compared with March 2023, inventories were up by 0.7%.

Given that business sales were also down by 0.1% in March, the inventory-to-sales ratio - i.e., the time in months to clear inventories - was unchanged at 1.37 month-on-month.
