(Alliance News) - On Friday, as futures predicted, the major European indexes open higher, with the Mib doing best of all, in anticipation this afternoon of U.S. nonfarm employment data.

Data that "could be among the most important employment data of the year as the U.S. bond and equity markets are at a crossroads. The U.S. 2-year yield refuses to lose sight of the 5 percent threshold, while the U.S. 10- and 30-year yields are purporting to rise further toward 5 percent based on expectations that inflation will remain higher for longer and require interest rate hikes for longer," comments Ipek Ozkardeskaya, Senior Analyst at Swissquote Bank.

The FTSE Mib then opens up 0.8 percent to 27,711.41, the Mid-Cap rises 0.7 percent to 39,157.30, the Small-Cap advances 0.3 percent to 25,212.26, and Italy Growth advances 0.3 percent to 8,112.92.

In Europe, London's FTSE 100 advances 0.3 percent, Paris' CAC 40 is in the green by 0.4 percent and Frankfurt's DAX 40 opens up 0.7 percent.

Ahead of the data expected this afternoon, "the U.S. economy is expected to have added 170,000 new nonfarm payroll jobs in September. Last month it was 187,000, and we expect the numbers to come down gradually. Wage growth, on the other hand, is seen stable at around 4 percent, significantly above the actual CPI figure of 3.7 percent," the analyst further points out.

Today, a reasonable wage growth figure coupled with another NFP number below 200,000, preferably close to the expectation of 170,000, or ideally lower, "should throw some cold water on bond yields, especially on the longer end of the yield curve," Ozkardeskaya adds. "But the impact of a cooling U.S. sovereign markets does not mean that equities are out of the woods. For stocks to continue to perform well, earnings expectations would have to keep pace with yields, and if the economy is slowing-a signal that could come from softer employment data-investors may remain reluctant to return to equity markets."
