On Thursday, May 3, creator of the Cabbage Patch Kids® Xavier Roberts reached a new milestone with the official groundbreaking for a new ?BabyLand General Hospital,? home of the world famous Cabbage Patch Kids.

Located off Hulsey Road in Cleveland, Georgia, surrounded by a panoramic view of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains, the new BabyLand General will have the look of a graceful, columned Southern Style Home. Granite-faced, Mt. Yonah, which plays a prominent role in the history of the Cabbage Patch Kids, will be clearly visible from the new site.

Following a brief message from Cleveland Mayor Don Stanley, Attorney General Johnny Chattin from the V Georgia Tribe of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation was invited to honor the rich Native American heritage of the area by performing a sacred ceremonial ground blessing for the protection and guidance of our future generations of children.

Family, friends, associates and a number of Cabbage Patch Kid Collectors joined Xavier as he launched this exciting new chapter in the history of the 30 year old phenomenon.

Construction of a 70,000 square foot building on 96 acres will begin immediately with anticipated completion in time to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Cabbage Patch Kids licensing program in 2008.

?BabyLand General has been a family destination for decades, and as we approach the 25th anniversary of the Cabbage Patch Kids next year, we could not be more excited about their new home,? said Al Kahn, Chairman and CEO of 4Kids Entertainment, the worldwide licensing and marketing agent for Cabbage Patch Kids. ?We are eagerly awaiting the opening of the brand new BabyLand General where we will celebrate the next 25 years of Cabbage Patch Kids.?

The new structure will include retail space, offices, a historical archive of the Cabbage Patch Kids as well as the Southern Appalachian region, a meeting and conference facility, warehouse and offices as well as be recognized as the ?home place? to 110 million Cabbage Patch Kids and their adoptive parents worldwide.

Xavier, dedicated to his roots, has kept his hometown of Cleveland as headquarters to his worldwide operation, Original Appalachian Artworks Inc., which includes Licensing, Internet Sales, New Product Development, Administrative and the ?Cabbage Patch,? where babies are still hand-stitched to birth.

Mother Cabbages will continue to deliver to the public with the assistance of LPN's (Licensed Patch Nurses) and doctors at the current site (73 W. Underwood St., Cleveland, Ga.) until the new BabyLand is complete.
