Spirit Airlines reports that it has reached an agreement with Airbus to defer all aircraft on order for delivery in the second quarter of 2025 until the end of 2026, to a new period 2030-2031.

These deferrals do not include the direct lease aircraft scheduled for delivery during this period, i.e. one in the second and one in the third quarter of 2025, and there is no change to the aircraft ordered from Airbus for delivery between 2027 and 2029.

The US airline explains that this agreement will improve its liquidity position by around $340 million over the next two years. It intends to lay off around 260 pilots as of September 1, 2024.
